This winter, the warmth of teamwork and exciting new projects has kept our office cozy at CKA. Our team has been working tirelessly on big and small-scale projects and we’re excited to share the results of our hard work with you. From the construction of a striking waterfront home to a website makeover, there’s a lot to catch up on.

GOVERNMENT + COMMUNITY

Details will be published soon on the Australian Institute of Architects website about The Robert Caulfield Graduate Research Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded annually by the Victorian chapter of the Institute to the most compelling proposal that seeks to critically investigate a subject relevant to the advancement of architecture in the industry and the community. The Robert Caulfield Graduate Research Scholarship is funded through a generous donation by Robert who’s own architecture career was kickstarted after being awarded two Institute research scholarships as an architecture graduate, both of which no longer exist. The scholarship recipients will receive $10,000 as well as one year of Institute membership and two tickets to the annual Victorian Chapter Gala.

CKA is deeply involved in the research and development of aged care and retirement projects. As president of COTA Vic (Council on the Ageing), Victoria’s peak aged care organization, Robert Caulfield has unique access to the latest research, industry trends government officials and policies.

Just completed, The Boathouse graces the shores of Kananook Creek, a stone’s throw from Seaford Beach. Despite confronting planning challenges such as flood, bush fire, Aboriginal sensitivity overlays and strict ResCode requirements, we have crafted a grand and spacious design for this compact dwelling. Working within a specific budget, our team designed solutions to maximize both comfort and style at an affordable price. This impressive residential project, featuring low-cost lightweight materials, boasts two distinct yet seamlessly integrated facades facing the creek and the street. It stands as a testament to stylish, affordable design.

We are gearing up for the construction stage of our suburban family home, inspired by Spanish architecture. The exterior, with its terracotta roof tiles, arched doorways, and wrought-iron balconies, is reminiscent of Spanish Caribbean glamour. The rear side balcony spans the full width of the property, offering a panoramic view of the pool whilst inside, the soft finishes add a touch of warmth and charm to the home. More new homes coming up.

We have a builder on board and are about to begin construction on a renovation we have designed for an Art Deco 1920s home in Hawthorn East. This includes several bathroom upgrades in which we replace all of the existing fixtures and materials, along with the introduction of a space-efficient vanity, tailored to enhance the functionality of this compact space.

Sorrento Beach House, VIC

Work continues on our design for a beach house in Sorrento. Our concept uses sleek timber finishes and polished concrete floors to give a contemporary and elegant feel to the home. Bi-fold doors create a seamless transition from the interior to an expansive outdoor entertainment and dining area. This inviting al fresco space, perfect for relaxation or hosting gatherings, looks out onto a swimming pool and its accompanying pool house.

UPCOMING PROJECTS

Following on from our Melbourne office’s extensive work in China, we have commenced preliminary work on a new ski resort in Hescu, Xinjiang Province, China. This development will include luxury resort accommodation and retail facilities. Additionally, we have commenced preliminary investigation work for a retirement facility in Manila, Philippines. We also have several new houses in the early stages of planning. One is a double-storey family home in Camberwell complete with a bungalow and plunge pool in the backyard. Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook to see more of what we’ve been working on lately and check out our website makeover.
