Location: Melbourne, Australia
The brief called for the construction of a family home built on existing stone piers that could have been there for centuries. Providing its owners with all modern conveniences and spectacular views in three directions, this unique home blends the old with the new, and provides resort style accommodation, complete with entertaining areas and guest accommodation.
This project presented a number of challenges. As well as being an extremely steep site, it also fell within a bushfire area, a green wedge zone and an erosion control area. These were all factored into the construction location, materials selection, landscaping and final form.
In spite of the challenges, the beauty of the site provided a great source of inspiration, with the designers drawing on the site’s granite outcrops and boulders in the selection of materials and colour palette.
