Camberwell Residence, Australia

The inspiration for this home was Californian Bunglalow.

The brief was to respect the historic architecture of the area, but with lofty, modern internal spaces which suited the needs of a growing family. It was to allow for professional entertaining of up to 50 guests at a time and for leisurely family gatherings around the central atrium and outdoor pool.
This residence exemplifies the practical and financial benefits of timeless good design.

Designed in 1990 on an average suburban block in one of Melbourne’s inner eastern suburbs, the home was built by Englehart Homes for a contract value of $255,000 on a block of land purchased for $270,000.

On completion in 1991 it was valued at $750,000 showing an immediate capital gain of 43%.

This home was awarded the James Hardie National Design Award and Master Builders Association Runner Up for Best Home of the Year. It received numerous industry citations along with extensive media coverage and community support for its concept of preserving architectural heritage whilst providing the latest in modern family living.

The home was sold in 2009 for $1,950,000 representing an excellent investment for the family over their period of ownership and nearly twenty years of happy family living.
