Melbourne Skyloop
CKA’s Melbourne Skyloop is a proposal for a spectacular Cable Car system that will link Flinders St Station to the MCG, and Richmond Station and AAMI Stadium.
A lightbulb idea with huge tourism potential, Skyloop will ease traffic congestion in the CBD and can transport high volumes of people conveniently, quietly and gently. The project provides flexibility in being built around existing infrastructure and with minimal impact on the existing urban environment.
The Skyloop will start its journey at Flinders St Station, flying across Birrarung Marr and along the Yarra River to a station at the MCG. From here the cars will climb up 100m into the air, where the cable cars will cross through a sportsperson Pyloneer which will be illuminated with laser light. Richmond Station will be invigorated into a Commercial and Residential hub including an 8-level apartment building, and retail complex.
AAMI Stadium will provide a much needed major parking resource for 3000 cars with direct access from the Monash Fwy, Punt Road and Olympic Blvd, as well as providing commuters with direct access to Richmond and the CBD. Melbourne Skyloop will have the capacity to transport 3000 passengers an hour and will make Melbourne more visible to the world, with an expected 2 million tourist trips per year. Bringing $16 million to the state government and stakeholders in the sporting precinct, the project offers huge economic benefits, whilst allowing people to experience Melbourne in an entirely new way – from the air.
