Art Nouveau Residence, Toorak

Location: Toorak, Melbourne, Australia

The inspiration for this large family home was Art Nouveau, the style that flourished around the turn of the 19th century. The brief called for a family home on a 2,500 sqm block, with plenty of room for entertainment, six bedrooms, a swimming pool and tennis court. The house is set over three levels with the living areas on the ground floor, a gym, games room and home theatre in the basement and the bedrooms on the first floor. Some of the first floor wall lines reflect the curvature of the Art Nouveau slate roof, adding an attic charm to bedrooms and bathrooms. The interiors are a product of close collaboration of Los Angeles-based Hendrix Allardyce Interiors and Ivo Krivanek.
