Location: Melbourne, Australia

Brief: The inspiration for this inner city home was an interpretation of the art deco style.

The brief was for stylish yet comfortable house which is able to accommodate a growing family.

The clients requested four large bedrooms, a games room, home theatre, gym, and a large integrated kitchen-dining-living area.

With their young family in mind, the clients wanted to incorporate an all-weather garden with a pool and outdoor rooms that were protected from the elements.

The challenge was to produce a design that included all of these features on a reasonably small piece of land and still allow space for a usable back yard.

The addition of a lower ground floor for the leisure spaces provided the space for the large living area on the ground floor. This was integrated with the back yard, creating a connection between the inside and outside spaces and compensating for the small yard.

The interiors are a product of close collaboration of Los Angeles-based Hendrix Allardyce Interiors and Ivo Krivanek.
